sunday collection #11

radiators.

these pictures were taken at Powers Surplus & Salvage sometime last week. it seems fitting after hearing Mr. Burtynsky's presentation.

we went to see Edward Burtynsky's talk this afternoon at The Rooms. his photography mostly deals with how humans transform the landscape through over-consumption of natural resources such as ore, gold and oil. it was a sobering talk.

Burtynsky's Oil exhibit opened at The Rooms the other day and will be showing until sometime in August. that's plenty of time and we highly recommend that you go see it.

Also, watch the documentary Manufactured Landscapes if you haven't seen it yet. the opening shot is 8 1/2 minutes. amazing.

azul

or asul (in my language)...blue like blueberries...as blue as the sky...bluer than the bluest sea. you get the idea.

it's first day of April. we still have single digit weather but it's mostly okay. at least it's not below zero.

also, i think m's photo on the previous post is pretty awesome, don't you think?

sunset - moonrise

This is a nine image, three panel, stitched panoramic HDR image that I took just over a year ago. (What a confusing sentence that is!) It was a lot of work to get it, and it looks fine I guess, but for some reason I just don't like it. I can't figure out why...

Any thoughts?

sunday collection the third

Today's Sunday collection is brought to you by the anonymous person who put these beach rocks on a picnic table outside By the Beach restaurant. I had fish and chips, E had cod bites. The batter was thick but somehow still light and crispy. Quite good.

time-lapse

Here's a time-lapse test I shot this weekend. If you squint at it on this page you might see Cabot Tower and, if you watch it at 720p and full-screen and squint, you might even see people running around Signal Hill.

The reason the light levels vary so much is because I tried using the same shutter, aperture, and ISO for every frame.

sunday collection #1

Here is a collection of parts that will eventually combine like Voltron to create my ghetto steadicam. Good times.

More Sunday collections to come?

Let's have a picnic!

A picture taken at our Ferryland lighthouse picnic that has been seriously overcooked using Picnik. I even applied a "sticker" to it...

Before on top, after below - click for more bigger-ness. The whole thing took around ten minutes.

So I guess I'm a little late to the game on this thing, but sweet mother! Do you like taking pictures? Are you getting to the stage where you would like to start "retouching" them? Are you not interested in paying several hoji for Photoshop? If so, you need to give this a try. Picnik, in combination with Picasa, is an incredibly affordable (read: free), versatile, and fun photo organization and editing solution. Check 'em both out!

You don't need Picasa to get on with Picnik by the way, I just like them both.

Note: this is not a replacement for Photoshop and Lightroom or other more "professional" tools. Picnik is much more limited and does not support raw files (yet?) for example. What it is, however, is the cat's pyjamas! Or is that the bee's knees?

conundrums.

the crow-penguin, as seen in its natural habitat. known to occasionally shit on your windows and, if you're unlucky, your head.

it's first day of March, it's Monday and it's been raining all day. a perfect day for rummaging your cupboards and fridge for something to eat all day long, having a cup of tea, reading and apparently wondering what "Florence Nightingale complex" is all about.

Some sort of intro...

hi. welcome to our little experiment. we're not quite sure how this whole thing is going to come together but i guess that's what makes it interesting and fun for us.

we are currently living in St. John's, Newfoundland (not to be confused with Saint John, New Brunswick), but M insists that we get around -- meaning, we like to travel. we also like taking photos, so we'll probably keep posting them, and we are crafty (and just your type).

wow. that was totally awkward.

now that that's out of the way, let's dance!
