hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.

oh my. how long has it been since either m or i posted here? we've neglected this little blog for way too long. but to be fair, we do have a very lovely and amazing reason for our lack of posting -- we got married last month! yay!

birthday!

it was little k's 3rd birthday today.

m drew the cutest card for her. it's an Echidna! little k is super into this spiny creature and it's the closest we could get to actually giving her one.
one of the two hamsies she got as a gift.
sparklers!
blowing out candles is serious business. she loved her carrot-pineapple cake, but she loved the creamcheese icing even more.
the little triangle paper banners were a hit.

happiest birthday little k! you're pretty amazing.

yarn.

we're off for a Sunday dinner at my sister's house soon. i'm sure there's going to be lots of tasty food there. too bad i'm still stuffed from half of the egg sandwich we just ate.

making a craft out of it.

it feels like it's been forever since i've made or created anything. i'd either been too busy, way too tired or just plain lazy/uninspired. terrible really. well, today i finally made something pretty awesome (i think!). it's a gift for someone. i'll post pictures of it later.

now, if only i can keep the momentum!

make your own ice

I just started making my own ice. It's awesome. I'm now a firm believer that all cold drinks are better with an unreasonably large ice cube in them. I make mine in a silicone bread pan with a plastic wrap cover. It works really well because you can just peel the "pan" off the block when it's done. The hardest part is chiseling off the bits to a workable size. I hear a specially designed ice pick can be used, in a pinch, but I use a screwdriver and it gets the job done.

I also bought heavy $2 cut glass glasses that I like:

In related link news, here's a way to save destroy the environment and make clearer ice.

sunday collection #5

embroidery hoops.
i bought these hoops from Value Village over a month ago. i thought they were a bit expensive for $1.99 a piece but figured it would be good to make a craft out of it. i only got around to working on one so far.
the owl was drawn by Philippa Jones and was screen printed by me at my previous workplace. this is a gift to two of my favourite people and their wee one arriving in a couple of months or so.

sunday collection #1

Here is a collection of parts that will eventually combine like Voltron to create my ghetto steadicam. Good times.

knitting.

work in progress.

done. ninja style.

it's probably been over 5 years since i've knitted anything. to be honest, i can only really knit and purl and haven't progressed beyond making scarves and toques. okay, i knitted a handbag once. also, i'm incredibly bad at reading patterns. my friend K used to have to write out simplified versions of the patterns for me so that i could understand them.

stunted knitting skills and being slightly ill equipped at reading patterns aside, it's pretty awesome to get knitting again. some of my crafty lady friends and i have met twice this month to have a go at knitting. the scarf above is the happy result.
