earlier today, i went to the first farmers' market of the season in our neighbourhood. the market couldn't have started on a better day. the sun was shining and full of summer promises. the temperature is still on the colder side, but hey, we'll take what we can get!
there wasn't that much produce at the market yet but there were loads of tasty eats, baked goods and preserves. also, some arts and crafts.
i exercised restraint and didn't buy much. i did, however, buy these: mixed radish sprouts, eggs and atsara/achara.
achara is a Filipino relish or chutney with green papaya as the main ingredient. since green papayas are like unicorns this side of the world, the one that i bought has turnips and carrots as main ingredients instead. i think it's a pretty ingenious way of using what's available and grown here locally.
now, if only the sun would just stick around a little longer.
